The invention deals with benzilidine derivatives having the general formula I wherein R¹, R² and R³ each represent hydrogen or electron withdrawing, donating or steric groups, such as alkyl, alkoxy, dialkylamino, trifluoromethyl, hydroxy or chloro and R⁴ and R⁵ each represent hydrogen, or R⁴ and R⁵ taken together form a -(CH₂)-,-(CH₂)₂- or -(CH₂)₃-group. Methyl, ethyl methoxy groups or halogen are preferred.;The novel benzilidine cyclohexanon, benzilidine cyclopentanon and benzilidine aceton derivatives show anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities that enable them to be used for drugs.
