To introduce a coloured glass flow into a glass strand, the glass colourings or coloured glass flows, or their mixtures, are used as solid bodies to be melted according to their characteristics in the feed and smelting system, using compact bodies. The molten coloured glass material is fed to the outlet of a feed into one or more glass supply vessels according to the viscosity of the glass flow. The glass flow at the outlet of the feed is divided into part-flows for the base glass and the covering glass. At the same time, the coloured glass material is fed between the two part-flows to melt with them to give a glass material strand in one or more colours.
