The device includes a carriage (1) on wheels (2) which supports a panel (3) made of sound absorbing material. The carriage can be placed under a car whose engine is being tested thus preventing reflection of the sound from the ground surface. The carriage has a metal frame (11) which supports a metal grating (12). The panel is fixed on the frame using removable plastic bands. A handle (5) is provided for manoeuvring the carriage.
