PURPOSE: To detect a ladle which cannot be early subjeted to a vacuum-degassing treatment, to prevent deterioration in production efficiency due to the reverse progression of a physical distribution and to enable the automation of the vacuum-degassing treatment without detecting slag surface level, etc., in the vacuum degassing treatment apparatus, in a refining process of molten steel. ;CONSTITUTION: At the time of executing the degassing treatment by tapping the molten steel A in a converter 1 into the ladle 2 and carrying the ladle 2 to the degassing treatment apparatus 4, the surface level of the slag B and the surface level of the molten steel A in the ladle just after tapping the molten steel, are detected. In the case the slag thickness ΔL obtd. from these levels exceeds the preset thickness, the ladle 2 is carried to a slag discharging device 30. In the case the slag thickness is thinner than the preset thickness, the ladle is carried to the degassing treatment apparatus 4. In the degassing treatment apparatus 4, the ladle 2 or a vacuum vessel 40 is controlled to ascend/descend based on the molten steel surface level. By this method, the slag surface level and the molten steel surface level can easily, quickly and accurately by detected with a comparatively simple detecting means at a low cost.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
