PURPOSE: To simply and efficiently produce granular magnesium hydroxide by hydrating magnesia and to reduce costs for storage, transfer and transportation. ;CONSTITUTION: While wetting magnesia with ≤25 pts.wt. water (e.g. 0.1-20 pts.wt.) for 100 pts.wt. calcined magnesia, the magnesia is dry-mixed or dry- kneaded to produce granular magnesium hydroxide. In a dry mixing system or a dry kneading system, the water may be added to the magnesia in a gaseous form or a liquid form. 0.01-20 pts.wt. catalyst is used for 100 pts.wt. magnesia and dry mixing or dry kneading may be performed. Also dispersion stability of an aqueous slurry containing granular magnesium hydroxide may be enhanced by performing dry mixing or dry kneading in the presence of a disperant.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
