The invention relates to a dry cleaning method using chlorine-free hydrocarbons (KWL) as a solvent, in which the filter has to be cleaned from time to time. This results in a mixture of solvent and filter cloths impregnated with dirt, in particular kieselguhr, from which the solvent must then be recovered. This is carried out by gravity sedimentation, and not by distillation as was the case up to now. The machine is fitted with a sedimentation tank which has an outflow hole (3) approximately one third of the way down form the brim of the tank, and which can be blocked. This third part of the total volume corresponds approximately to the content of an ordinary filter tank.
