The power-assisted steering has a pinion (3) and a sliding rack (1). The pinion can swing about an axis transverse to its rotational axis and pref. transverse to the rack axis to take up movement and forces between the rack and pinion. A disc (6) is attached to the pinion or pinion shaft. Valve pistons (7) are supported parallel to the pinion axis and act on the disc to change the pinion axis inclination.
