A brake drum assembly has a brake shoe (1) with a sole (2) and lining (3). The sole has a supporting segment (4) resting on a cross- piece (5). The crosspiece incorporates a recess (6) enhancing flexibility of the shoe structure. The brake shoe is capable of elastic deformation with respect to the brake drum.
