A sintered barium titanate semiconducting ceramic, containing boron oxide in an amount dependent on the contents of other specified metal oxides, is new. A semiconducting ceramic comprises a sintered barium titanate which contains boron oxide, an oxide of one or more metals selected from Ba, Sr, Ca, Pb, Y and rare earth elements and optionally an oxide of one or more metals selected from Ti, Sn, Zr, Nb, W and Sb, the content of boron oxide (calculated as atomic boron) satisfying the following relationships: B/ beta = 0.005 to 0.50 and B/( alpha - beta ) = 1.0 to 4.0, where alpha = total number of Ba, Sr, Ca, Pb, Y and rare earth element atoms and beta = total number of Ti, Sn, Zr, Nb, W and Sb atoms in the ceramic. An Independent claim is also included for an electronic component comprising one or more electrodes formed on the above semiconducting ceramic.
