PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the inclination of an image even when data to be handled are small and the inclination is large.;SOLUTION: This device is constituted of a computer, and the inputted bit map data of an original are divided in the column direction and stored in divided areas (S1), and the number of bits in the divided areas are integrated in the row direction so that a histogram can be formed and stored in a data storage area (S3-S11). Then, continuous image parts are detected from the histogram (S13), and when the plural detected data are present (S15, S19: YES), the data whose reliability is the highest are selected (S21), and the inclination is calculated by a prescribed formula based on the data (S23). When the inclination is calculated, the bit map data stored in an input buffer are rewritten based on the inclination data, and the inclination is corrected (S25), and stored in an output buffer.
