The present invention is directed to a sanitary napkin having a liquid-absorbingsection with two opposing longitudinal sides; a first transverse side whichdefines afront portion of the liquid-absorbing section and a second transverse sideopposing thefirst transverse side which defines a rear portion of the liquid-absorbingsection. Theliquid-absorbing section includes a liquid-permeable cover layer, a liquid-imperviousbarrier layer and an absorbent layer intermediate the cover layer and thebarrier lays. The napkin further includes a liquid-arresting section united with the liquid-absorbingsection, the liquid-arresting section projecting rearward from the secondtransverse sideof the liquid-absorbing section to a sufficient distance to at least partiallycover awearer's gluteal groove when the liquid-absorbing section is substantiallyaligned withthe wearer's vaginal opening. The liquid-arresting section has an externalsurfacefacing away from the wearer's body when the article is in use by the wearer, theexternal surface being substantially free of adhesive. The liquid-arrestingsection has alongitudinally extending preferential bending zone, such that when the articleis in useby the wearer, at least a portion of the liquid-arresting section is capableof bending atthe preferential bending zone so as to eater or conform to the wearer'sgluteal groove.
