In the method for threading of a paper or paperboard web a narrower tail (T)separated from the paper or paperboard web (W) is conveyed between differentholding points. On the travel path of the tail (T) there is at least onetension measuring device (1) which is arranged to measure the tension of thetail (T) passing by, said device (1) being connected to a data processing unit(7) which is connected to tension control means affecting the tail (T). Thethreading can be conducted on a tension level lower than the actual runningtension of the full-width web (W).
