The invention relates to a shield (9) or rose having an opening (14) into which the shank (25) of a key (8) is inserted for actuating a fitted safety element (6) of the mortise lock (2). The opening (14) comprises two guiding surfaces (17) which are situated substantially behind a wall (12) parallel to and at a distance from each other and which guide the shank (25) of the key (8). In addition the opening (4) is positioned in a part (10) which is rotationally mounted in a through-hole (13) in the wall (12). The invention permits the use of a flat key (8) and of a short twist lock cylinder as the fitted safety element (6).
