A measurement apparatus (1) providing both a raw measurement d(i) of a distance and a raw measurement v(i) of the relative velocity of an object relative to the apparatus (1) is disclosed. The velocity measurement v(i) is integrated over a predetermined sliding time interval, the difference between the raw distance measurement d(i) and the integral of (i) of the velocity is determined, a mean value (Cdif) of said difference over said time interval is calculated, and the calculated means (Copt) is added to the integral of (i) of the velocity to provide a filtered measurement (dfilt) of the distance between the object and the measurement apparatus.
