Chassis construction for rear wheel spaces has inner ducts to draw turbulent air flow from wheels and expel air via angled outlet under rear edge of chassis, reduces air turbulence in rear wheel space
A chassis design for a road vehicle for reduced turbulence and drag from the rear wheel spaces has inner ducts (8) each side of the wheel spaces, and between the wheel spaces and the spare wheel housing (5). The front wall (11) of the inner spaces runs flush with the front wall of the spare wheel housing and with the axle line linking the wheels. The inner ducts are open to the wheel spaces and the low pressure effect (18) at the front of the ducts draws turbulent air flow from the wheel spaces, as well as air flow (21) from under the chassis. The inner ducts are vented with a minimum of turbulence by sloping walls (16) to the rear edge of the chassis.
