A chute (1) supplies partially opened fiber tufts to several pairs of feed rollers (21,21') located at the bottom (12) of the chute (1). Each pair has an associated opening roller (22,22') with a closely spaced shroud (25). Opened fiber leaves at a bottom outlet (24) assisted by an air stream induced through openings (L,L'). An Independent claim is also included for dividing a fiber tuft stream in a chute (1) into several parallel streams and recombining them after opening.
