Filler (I) for (in)organic polymers (II) comprises foamed glass granules (A) having particular size, porosity and/or chemical composition such that they withstand processing or polymers without significant destruction of their original glass structure, i.e. maximum possible retention of closed porosity. Polymer processing involves (i) compounding; (ii) extrusion to semi-formed articles and (iii) thermomechanical stresses in subsequent molding operations. An Independent claim is also included for production of a polymeric material containing (I) in which, to retain as much as possible of the original structure during compounding within an extruder, (A) is added at more than one location and/or is formulated with a friction-reducing auxiliary in liquid or pasty form.
