PURPOSE:To further enhance characteristics such as thermal shock resistance, room-temperature strength and hot strength of a sintered material of ZrO2 partially stabilized with MgO. CONSTITUTION:ZrO2 is mixed with 2-3.5wt.% MgO as a stabilizer, 0.05-3wt.% SrO, 0.05-2wt.% Al2O3 and 0.05-1wt.% SiO2. The raw material powder is molded and burnt in the atmosphere at 1,500-1,800 deg.C. By adding MgO as a stabilizer, SrO, Al2O3 and SiO2 to ZrO2, a region of monoclinic system phase makes a specific fine texture having formed a three-dimensional network to provide a sintered material of ZrO2 partially stabilized with MgO having extremely improved characteristics such as thermal shock resistance, room-temperature strength and hot strength.
