PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce flame-retardant fibers that are inexpensive and high flame- retardant, flame-retardant twisted yarns and flame-retardant fabrics therefrom. ;SOLUTION: The layer of a compound including a silicon component and/or a metal component and oxygen is compounded to the particles of a supporting material to prepare flame-retardancy-imparting composite particles 10 having the compounded structure, and the resultant composite particles are compounded to chemical or natural fibers 16. When a high-temperature is applied to the obtained compounded fibers 200, the compound layer of the composite particles for imparting flame retardancy forms a protecting layer for inhibiting its combustion, and high flame retardancy is imparted to the fibers. In addition, by the protecting layer formed, the formulation to the fibers can be reduced by the effect of the protecting layer thereby the amount of a flame retardant including the composite particles can be reduced. As a result, the strength and durability of the finally obtained fibers are increased, further the fluidity of its molten product is increased and the melt-spinning operability is improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
