In a method for regulation for the four-quadrant mains converter which is fed from a single-phase AC mains system and is constructed using GTO or IGBT switching valves, of a voltage intermediate-circuit converter, the amplitude of the real current IMAGE and reactive current IMAGE is governed by an intermediate circuit voltage regulator. These currents are limited to permissible values and the current nominal value IMAGE is then calculated such that it leads. The actual value of the intermediate-circuit voltage IMAGE is filtered by means of sliding averaging. A higher-order linear regulator which has the structure of a so-called monitoring observer regulates the instantaneous value of the current IMAGE. The fundamental frequency and harmonics of the mains voltage are measured in terms of amplitude and phase. The regulator is supported by connection of the mains voltage IMAGE, which supplies the mains voltage predictor. Furthermore, the regulation is synchronized with the mains voltage. This regulation method is suitable for both high and low switching frequencies and is distinguished by a wide dynamic range, since the instantaneous value of the current is regulated directly. Due to the wide dynamic range of the monitoring observer, the regulation also carries the current reliably at low switching frequencies. The regulation method is excellently suitably for low-frequency clocking GTO-4QS and for high-frequency clocking IGBT-4QS. IMAGE
