PURPOSE: A method for forming a reflection preventing film is provided to reduce defects caused by an abrasive. CONSTITUTION: A wide reinforcing band(4) is banded in a tube of a cathode ray tube(1). An abrasive is spread on a tube glass screen surface of the cathode ray tube(1). The tube screen surface is polished by the abrasive. The polished screen is washed. A PVA(PolyVinylAlcohol) is spread between a sidewall of the glass and the wide reinforcing band(4) to prevent a dispersion of abrasive impurities at a heating step for coating an antistatic film(2) and a reflection preventing film(3). The spread PVA is burned by turning at 250deg.C after preheating at 40-50deg.C and coating the screen surface.
