CLEARANCE COMPENSATING STRUCTURE OF UNIVERSAL JOINT FOR STEERING COLUMN OF VEHICLE

PURPOSE: A clearance compensating structure of a universal joint for the steering column of a vehicle prevents the generation of a clearance though wear occurs, further, prevents vibration and noise due to the clearance. CONSTITUTION: A shaft tube(5) has semicircular grooves(51) formed, longitudinally, on both sides of the circumferential surface thereof. A through hole(52) is formed on the terminal of each of the grooves(51). An outer tube(6) has semicircular convex portions(61) formed, longitudinally, on both sides of the circumferential surface thereof. A "U" type elastic member(4) is disposed between each of the grooves(51) and each of the convex portions(61), respectively. The elastics of the elastic member(4) compensate the clearance of the groove(51) and the convex portion(61). Thus, a vibration and a noise are prevented.
