The device includes a holder with holding-down member mounted on the machine frame above the workpiece socket by a guide and fixable through a clamping device which has at least one self-clamping body whose clamping action can be released through the extension drive which moves the holding down member. The holder can have at least two sections movable relative to each other with an end play inbetween which causes the release of the clamping body. The clamping body can interact with a clamping rail through friction.
