Producing cleavage vaccines (A) comprises cleaving the lipid capsules of virus particles in subunits, removing unwanted components and incorporating the product in a vaccine, where the lipid capsule is cleaved using a fatty acid (I) or its salt. Producing cleavage vaccines (A) comprises cleaving the lipid capsules of virus particles in subunits, removing unwanted components and incorporating the product in a vaccine, where the lipid capsule is cleaved using a fatty acid of formula RCOOH (I) or its salt. R = linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated 2-17C (preferably 3-11C) alkyl. An Independent claim is also included for (I) obtained by the above process.
