Operation of fuel cell involves introducing hydrogen produced on the anode side by hydrogen reforming to the fuel cell anode (1); reacting with oxygen-containing ions; withdrawing an anode waste gas produced and adding to the hydrogen introduced. The anode waste gas is subjected to a catalytic conversion and/or a purification during recycling. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for operating a fuel cell.
