The method involves enabling and blocking the transport of compressed air to the cylinder with an electrically operated valve connected to at least one contact device via which it is opened and closed. A trigger (15) on the shaft (6) passes the contact device (17) once per revolution and causes the contact device to temporarily open the valve. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for controlling the compressed air feed for a cylinder of a piston engine operated by compressed air.
