The shock absorber has a first chamber (8) containing air (9) under pressure to form its main spring, and a second chamber (1) divided into two compartments (3, 6) by a moving piston (2), the first compartment being connected by one or more ducts (10) to the first chamber via a fluid flow regulator (11). The first compartment (3) contains a certain volume of a fluid (5) of greater density than air, preferably hydraulic oil, which is forced into the first chamber when compressed and flows back into the first compartment via valves in the regulator when the pressure is released.
