PURPOSE: To provide an inserted light source for synchrotron radiation, capable of generating strong linear polarized light with a less higher harmonic wave for reducing the abrasion of an optical element due to the heat load of light in a wavelength zone not in use. ;CONSTITUTION: This light source is inserted in a linear section between the deflection magnets of a circular accelerator, and is formed out of horizontal undulators 10 and vertical undulators 12 linearly laid along the axial line Z of an electron beam 9, with the polarity N and S of a plurality of magnets 11 alternately changed. Furthermore, the undulators 10 and 12 are arranged in such a state as alternately orthogonal with each other about an axial line and dislocated in an axial direction as welt, so that generated magnetic fields are alternately orthogonal with each other and the magnetic field of one undulator is reversed at every cycle of the magnetic field of the other undulator. For example, the period of the vertical undulators 12 is set two times as long as the period of the horizontal undulators 10. As a result, electron beams rotate alternately in normal and reverse directions like the figure of 8, viewed from the axial line thereof.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
