The assembly includes a steering shaft (4), an electric motor (30) and a control unit (33) forming with this electric motor, a control signal (S) as a function of functioning parameters (P1,P2,P3,P4,P5) of the steering shaft, and/or more generally, the vehicle. The control unit has a first computer unit for generating a theoretical torque assistance signal (CAT). It has a unit (24) to measure the transversal acceleration (P4) of the vehicle. The control unit also has a second computer unit for generating a reference steering wheel torque signal (CR) from the measured transversal acceleration value.
