PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable cycle engine which can vary an engine cycle without mechanically controlling the size of an opening area in a throat area of an LPTGV, and a method of varying the engine cycle. ;SOLUTION: The variable cycle engine, which can vary the opening area in the throat area of the nozzle that is formed between static blades of a low pressure turbine in a multi-shaft gas turbine including a high pressure turbine and the low pressure turbine, has air outlet ports formed on the surface of the static blade and/or the periphery face of a turbine shroud. In the blowoff of air from the outlet ports to the nozzle, the air is blown out at an angle of causing the separation of a flow of a turbine gas that flows along the static blade surface and/or the turbine shroud periphery face, and the blowoff amount of the air is adjusted, so that the separation length may be controlled and the effective area of the throat area of the nozzle may be varied.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
