PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably suppress UV deterioration of optical fibers 1, 1,... for ultraviolet-ray transmission, which transmit ultraviolet rays, for a long period by deterring hydrogen molecules from coming out of the optical fibers 1, 1,....;SOLUTION: The optical fibers 1, 1,... for ultraviolet-ray transmission are airtightly covered with a flexible tube member 4 while a space S is left, a terminal part of the tube member 4 is airtightly closed while terminal parts of the optical fibers 1, 1,... are inserted, and hydrogen gas is charged in the tube member 4 to hold the optical fibers 1, 1,... always in contact with hydrogen, thereby preventing hydrogen from being diffused to the atmosphere from the optical fibers 1, 1,....;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
