PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a regulator for production of an osteoclast formation inhibitor, and a method for screening a substance capable of regulating the production of the osteoclast formation inhibitor. SOLUTION: This regulator for the production of the osteoclast formation inhibitor comprises a glucide as an active ingredient. The method for screening is carried out as follows. A cultured established cell line having an ability to produce the osteoclast formation inhibitor is cultured in a nutrient culture medium and a test specimen is added thereto. The cultured established cell line is then cultured in the presence of the test specimen and the amount of the osteoclast formation inhibitor released into the culture supernatant is measured. The resultant measured value is compared with a control measured value to thereby judge the test specimen to be a substance capable of regulating the production of the osteoclast formation inhibitor when the measured value of the test specimen exceeds or is below the control measured value.
