A device for preparing dry brown coal comprises an oscillating conveying groove (1) having a receiving end (6) and a removal end (9). Cooling air (8) is introduced below the conveying groove. The base of the groove has individual air-permeable stages (7) with intermediate chambers arranged between the stages. The groove is arranged in a housing (2). A sieving path (10) for classifying the dry brown coal is provided within the housing. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of dry brown coal using the above device. Preferred Features: A chute (11) is arranged below the sieving path for receiving the coal falling through the path. The conveying groove and sieving path are encapsulated by a common cover (15) which has a suction support (16). The sieving path has a sieving mat having a mesh size of 1 mm.
