The fastening device is normally designed as a hook with a vertically positioned extension which can be moved inwards to open for being attached to a ring permanently joined to the collar. The vertical extension can be easily pushed open unintentionally when the dog moves his head and the ring changes its position. The new design of a fastening device (2) is provided with a projection (9) at the front of the hook at the upper end of the extension, preventing the ring from being moved into the critical position.
