A motor vehicle for fire fighting has a single drive motor (3) for the extinguishing pump (2) and the drive wheels (5). The pump is coupled to the speed of the drive motor but there is a by-pass (6) between the motor and drive wheels so that the vehicle can drive slowly while pumping at full power : A motor vehicle for fire fighting has a fire pump, drive motor and vehicle drive (4) with an on/off connection to the drive wheels. There is a further drive connection (7) between the drive motor and pump and the extinguishing pump is coupled to the rotational speed of the drive motor. There is a by-pass drive (6) between the drive motor and wheels sized for low vehicle speeds so that the drive is rotation speed variable independently of the speed of the drive motor.
