To keep abreast of current high-head design problems and to be prepared for designing future high-head control structures, the Bureau of Reclamation is conducting a sustained test program on control systems and energy dissipaters. In previous years this program has been limited by the lack of adequate pump capacity in the Denver laboratories at heads in the range of 300 to 500 feet. The high-head and much larger discharge facilities available for the laboratory's use at Estes Power plant have the desired capacity and afford the opportunity for making fairly large scale tests.
