PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quartz vibrating piece which can be easily manufactured by carrying out an etching process of forming its external shape and cutting a groove at the same time so as to reduce its manufacturing processes in number, to provide its manufacturing method, to provide a quartz device using the quartz vibrating piece, and to provide a portable telephone and an electronic apparatus using the quartz device.;SOLUTION: The quartz vibrating piece is wholly formed of quartz and equipped with a base and a pair of vibrating arms 35 extending in parallel from the base, and grooves 56 are formed in each vibrating arm 35. A method of manufacturing the quartz vibrating piece is that a board of quartz material is subjected to etching. When the external shape of the quartz vibrating piece is formed by etching the board of quartz material, the width NW of the groove is set so as not to exceed the projection volume h of a dissimilar profile 65 formed on each vibrating arm 35 by the anisotropy of quartz in an etching process.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
