PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate peak traffic with high reliability by taking account of stochastic fluctuations.;SOLUTION: A method for estimating peak traffic includes the steps of: estimating a probability distribution which data whose value exceeds a prescribed reference value follows among received measurement data of a network of a noted communication service and selecting the right end of the probability distribution to be the estimate value of the peak traffic; dividing the received measurement data of the network of the noted communication service into a plurality of groups; acquiring data taking a maximum value in each of the divided groups; estimating the probability distribution which the acquired maximum value data follow; and selecting the right end of the probability distribution to be the estimated value of the peak traffic.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
