PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particle diameter-controlling agent capable of continuously and optionally controlling a wide range of particle diameters of a vinyl chloride based resin in a vinyl chloride based latex, enabling the resin to form a paste vinyl chloride resin having a good viscosity stability with time without giving surface roughness of a foamed body when being processed to the paste vinyl chloride resin.;SOLUTION: The method for producing the vinyl chloride based latex is specified as follows: when emulsion-polymerizing a vinyl chloride based monomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of the particle diameter-controlling agent for the vinyl chloride based resin latex, comprising an alkalimetal sulfate and a 8-18C straight-chain fatty acid alkalimatal salt, the diameter-controlling agent is preliminarily added thereto before the polymerization.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
