In the present invention, there is disclosed a flux for hot dip galvanization comprising from 60 to 80 percent by weight of zinc chloride, 7 to 20 percent by weight of ammonium chloride, 2 to 20 percent by weight of a fluidity modifying agent containing at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal, 0.1 to 5 percent by weight of at least one of the following compounds: nickelous chloride, cobaltous chloride, manganese dichloride, and 0.1 to 1.5 percent by weight of at least one of the following compounds: lead(II) chloride, tin dichloride, bismuth chloride and antimony trichloride. There is further described a fluxing bath for hot dip galvanization as well as a process for the hot dip galvanization of an iron or steel product.
