A process for producing fine metal oxide particles or the like which comprises: a first step in which a solution (A) containing an alkali salt of a metal acid and a solution (B) containing an acid are prepared; a second step in which the solution (A) is mixed with the solution (B) to precipitate fine particles of the alkali salt of a metal acid and the precipitate is simultaneously neutralized with the acid contained in the solution to generate fine metal oxide particles; and a third step in which a solvent (C) is added to the resultant suspension containing the fine metal oxide particles to heighten the degree of monodispersion of the fine metal oxide particles. Also provided are fine metal oxide particles, etc. obtained by the process.
