The present invention relates to a process for preparing a metal hydroxide in the form of fine particles comprising aluminum hydroxide, as main constituent which comprises the continuous supply of water and of a mixture of an aluminium alkoxide and of at least an alkoxide of a metal chosen from among mg, ca, fe, ti, zr, in a zone with stirring at a shear rate of high; and a process for preparing a metal oxide in the form of fine particles comprising aluminum oxide, as main constituent, which comprises the drying and then the calcination of the said metal hydroxide to 500 - 1 500 degréc.
