The invention relates to an optoelectronic measuring system in which at least two first light sources (3, 4) emit light in a time-sequentially clocked manner. At least one receiver (13) is provided for receiving at least the clock-synchronous alternating light portion coming from the first light sources (3, 4). The invention also relates to a device for compensating for extraneous light by regulating the luminous intensity irradiated by at least one light source on the measuring system so that the clock-synchronous alternating light portion goes to zero. By virtue of the fact that the at least one other light source (14), which is used for regulating, is assigned to the receiver (13) and whose luminous intensity can be regulated with regard to amplitude and sign, is a light source that is independent of the first light sources (3, 4), a compensation of the input signal to bring it to zero is achieved using simple means even in complex measuring systems having position, direction and distance detection.
