PURPOSE: An electrode assembly for a lithium ion battery and a lithium ion battery using the same are provided to increase the battery capacity while maintaining its stability by using improved current-interrupting means in battery. CONSTITUTION: The electrode assembly(30) for a lithium ion battery comprises: a battery section(34) where a positive electrode plate(31), a separator(32) and a negative electrode plate(33) are wound up; a positive electrode lead(35) which is electrically connected with the positive electrode plate, drawn out from the positive electrode plate; and a negative electrode lead(36) which is electrically connected with the negative electrode plate, drawn out from the negative electrode plate and having an electric current-interrupting section(36a) which operates by having a reduced cross-sectional area compared to that of adjacent part, when overcurrent is introduced.
