PURPOSE: A defect managing method using a TDMA(Temporary Defect Management Area) and a TFDMA(Temporary Finalized Defect Management Area) is provided to read all temporary defect information recorded in a TDMA and a TFDMA while finalizing. CONSTITUTION: A DMA is disposed in at least one of a lead-in area and a lead-out area. A TDMA is disposed in at least one of the lead-in area and the lead-out area. A TFDMA is disposed in at least one of the lead-in area and the lead-out area. The TDMA is used for recording temporary defect information that informs of information only on a defect generated from a recording operation, and temporary defect management information that informs of information for managing the temporary defect information. The temporary defect information and the temporary defect management information are in pairs, to be recorded in block units.
