The tensioner (1) for a belt drive, using an elastic belt (11), is mounted to a machine section (3) by a carrier body (2), where a working eccentric (4) bears against it under spring pressure. The eccentric has a running roller (10), on roller bearings, to support the belt. The carrier body has a laying surface (16), on an angular pitch differing from the right angle to the carrier body longitudinal axis (A), for support at the machine section, to compensate for a negative alignment deviation (alpha) between the longitudinal axes (A,B) of the carrier body and the eccentric.
