Decorative metal material, has a black chrome layer which is plated to the metal surface and forms a bond between the substrate surface and the paint layer. The decorative metal material for an object (2) is electroplated and painted. The paint is applied over a part of the metal surface, and a metal coating is at a neighboring surface zone applied by electroplating, after mechanical removal of some paint and parts of the metal surface. A black chrome layer (18) is applied by electroplating to the surface (20) of the colored metal substrate (4). The black chrome layer forms a bond between the substrate surface and the paint layer (6) and is in direct contact with the paint, to bond it to the metal. The additional plated metal coating (14) contains a noble metal.
