PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focal point detector having improved focal point detection accuracy, with brightness and contrast of an object matched to select a photodiode line of an area sensor.;SOLUTION: The focal point detector comprises a first photodiode line 30a of small pixel area, an area sensor 30 arrayed with a second photodiode line 30b with a large pixel area, a first read circuit for reading only the first photodiode line 30a, a second read circuit for reading only the second photodiode line 30b, and a third read circuit for reading added with the first and second photodiode lines 30a and 30b. The focal point detector is provided with a controller 31 which is controlled so as to read to switch the first, second and third read circuits, in response to charge accumulation time of the area sensor 30.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
