PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device so formed that even if rewriting the firmware of an optical disk drive has failed, it can be rewritten from a disk.;SOLUTION: This external storage device having a storage media and serving as a peripheral of a computer system includes a control means for controlling the system of the external storage device, and firmware having an updating means for the firmware including the control means.
