PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely and quickly find a background counting rate while taking natural radioactivity contained in a measuring object into account.;SOLUTION: This method/instrument has an observation process S3 for actually measuring a background count under a condition in the absence of the measuring object, by a radiation detector, to thereby acquire an observation value of the background counting rate, an NR simulation process S8 for preparing a three-dimensional model for arranging a virtual three-dimensional model of the measuring object and a virtual three-dimensional model of the radiation detector in an actual positional relation same to an actual geometric position relation, so as to generate a virtual radiation where a radiation by the natural radioactivity of the measuring object is reproduced pseudly, from the virtual three-dimensional model of the measuring object, and for counting the incidences into the virtual three-dimensional model of the radiation detector to find the NR counting rate, and an NR correction process S9 for adding the NR counting rate to the observed value of the background counting rate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
